MoonDogs open second half with win
'Dogs bark late with four runs in final three innings


DULUTH

The Mankato MoonDogs opened the second half of the Northwoods League season with a win Friday, defeating the Duluth Huskies 4-1 at Wade Stadium.

The MoonDogs, who clinched the North Division’s first-half title on Wednesday, trailed 1-0 before scoring four runs in the final three innings, including a two-run eighth.

Michael Rockett and Bobby Munoz each went 2 for 4, and Carlos Ramirez hit his seventh home run of the season, tying the game 1-1 in the seventh inning. Matt Prokopowicz finished 2 for 3 with a double, as Mankato out-hit Duluth 9-5.

Zach Calhoon got the win in relief of James Dale, who allowed four hits over 62⁄3 innings. Calhoon gave up no hits in 11⁄3 innings. Erik Hamren got his fifth save of the season, closing out the Huskies in the ninth inning.

The two teams will meet again at 7:05 p.m. tonight at Duluth. After two games at Alexandria Monday and Tuesday, the MoonDogs (21-14) will return to Mankato on Wednesday when they will host Battle Creek.
