Gusties doubles team second at nationals Bryan, Paukert fall 6-3, 6-4 in championship match The Free Press LEWISTON, Maine — The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s doubles team of Andy Bryan and Charlie Paukert concluded their improbable run through the NCAA Division III National Men’s Tennis Championships Sunday with a second-place finish.
The Gustavus duo, which was unseeded in the tournament, lost to Guillaume Schils and Larry Wang of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 6-3, 6-4 in the championship match late Sunday afternoon. Bryan and Paukert advanced to the championship match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Ben Stein and Amrit Rupasinghe of host Bates College in a semifinal match on Sunday afternoon. Bryan and Paukert, who earn All-America honors by virtue of finishing second at the NCAA Championships, finished the season with a record of 31-9 overall and 25-7 against Division III opponents.
