MSU baseball team crushed in title game Nebraska-Omaha cruises to 17-0 win The Free Press OMAHA, Neb. — The Minnesota State University baseball team was unable to withstand a six home run barrage by the University of Nebraska-Omaha Sunday, losing 17-0 in the championship game of the final North Central Conference Tournament.
Evan Porter’s three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning was all UNO needed as it cruised to the victory at Boys Town Field. Dustin Kocha hit two home runs and Chris Weimer ripped a grand slam to lead a 10-run second inning and bury MSU in the title game. Porter added another two-run homer in the fifth. While Nebraska-Omaha was hammering six MSU pitchers with 16 hits, UNO’s Tim Huber was shutting his opponent down with a nifty three-hit shutout over seven innings. Huber struck out eight without walking a batter. MSU picked up two more hits off relievers in the final two innings. Kosuke Hattori had the only extra-base hit for MSU when he doubled in the fifth inning and was left stranded.
