Published March 26, 2008 01:31 am - The Giants finished first in the meet’s first three events en route to the top spot in the MRC boys track and field meet at MSU. LSH sweeps boys, girls track meet Minnesota River Conference kicked off with meet at MSU By Dan Myers Free Press Staff Writer MANKATO — The Le Sueur-Henderson boys track and field team finished third in the conference last season, but came out on top Tuesday at the Minnesota River Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet hosted by Central at Myers Field House.
The Giants got a number of solid performances, especially from their seniors, to run away with the meet on the boys side, scoring 176 points — 46 more than second place Mayer Lutheran. The Giants finished first in the meet’s first three events, including the 4x800-meter relay, Caleb Giesen in the 55 high hurdles and Bryce Prax in the 55-meter dash. Giesen and Prax were the stars for LSH, as Giesen followed up his win in the 55 highs with a first place finish in the 55 IM hurdles. “Not much to it I guess,” Giesen said, who will be counted on all season as the team’s top hurdler. “I just wanted to go out there and concentrate on my form, work hard and do my best. Tonight it worked out. Prax won the state championship in the 200 meters last spring and started his season off in style — winning the 55 and the 200 meter sprints. He was also the anchor of the Giants’ first place 4x200-meter team. “He’s one of the best athletes on our team,” Giants coach Larry Hylarides said. “Last year in this meet he won four events, but he’s still nursing a bit of a football injury so we skipped him in the long jump.” The Giants also finished first in the girls half of the meet, scoring 144 points and beating second place Belle Plaine by 24 points.
