A 17-year-old Madison Lake youth who was allegedly driving 114 mph, escaped injury after he rolled his car.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Steinbach clocked a vehicle going 114 mph on County Road 12, just east of Highway 22. He turned around and attempted to catch the eastbound vehicle. He briefly lost sight of the car but then saw taillights of a vehicle turning onto 232nd Street. The vehicle turned onto two other roads and headed east on County Road 26.

As the deputy followed, he saw grass and debris on the road near a curve and saw an overturned vehicle in the ditch, resting on its roof. The 17-year-old, the lone person in the vehicle, was lying next to the car, uninjured.

The vehicle, a 1999 Pontiac Firebird, was a total loss.

The youth was placed in the juvenile detention facility in New Ulm.

He faces charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, careless driving and speeding.
