There’s really only one thing to say:
Here’s a Hee Haw Salute — to the Maple River School District.
On Sept. 13 and 14, Maple River will be sponsoring a good, old-fashioned Hee Haw Show as a way to raise money for the district’s Parent-Teacher Organizations. Three shows — 7 p.m. on the 13th and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the 14th — will be held at the AAA Auditorium in Mapleton.
Laura Gunsolus, a teacher at Maple River East, said planning for the show began in the spring with more than 40 teachers and community members joining to write and rehearse a loose script.
Last year, a Maple River East PTO fundraiser generated the last funds needed for a $35,000 renovation of the school’s playground — which was first deemed unsafe and then vandalized. This year, part of the proceeds will help purchase a new surface for the playground, to be built next summer.
The rest of the proceeds will benefit the Maple River West and Central PTOs.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the schools and local banks. Free daycare is provided. For more information, visit the district Web site at www.isd2135.k12.mn.us.
