Here’s the tally: a boy at 6:44 a.m., boy at 8:49 a.m., girl at 11:28 a.m., girl at 11:31 a.m., girl at 1:08 p.m., girl at 2:46 p.m., boy at 3:50 p.m., boy at 5:57 p.m., boy at 8:32 p.m., girl at 10:24 p.m., girl at 11:21 p.m.

That makes six girls and five boys born at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in fewer than 17 hours in its Family Birth Center. The births took place Friday, Aug. 1, between 6:44 a.m. and 11:21 p.m.

“It’s difficult to say if this is a record number for that time period,” Paula Meskan, registered nurse and director of Women’s and Children’s Service at ISJ, said in a statement.

“I do know staff and providers really stepped up and put forth extraordinary efforts to ensure each baby and the family had the very best care, “ she said. “We are extremely proud of our team and are grateful for their clinical excellence and compassionate care.”

Aug. 1 seemed like a normal day, Dr. Carla Goerish, an obstetrician and gynecologist at the Mankato Clinic, said in a statement.

“It is always an amazing experience bringing a new life into this world. Friday seemed like any other day, outside of a little more hustle and bustle on the floor, so learning that there were 11 babies born in 17 hours was surprising,” Goerish said.
