Car crashes through bank window
No one injured in accident

NORTH MANKATO

A case of mistaken identity caused a scene at North Mankato’s Wells Fargo bank branch Monday afternoon.

In this case, however, the mistake had nothing to do with the identities of people — but rather the identities of brake and accelerator.

North Mankato police officer Carl Bock said 82-year-old Martin Schroeder and his wife were pulling up to the bank — located on Commerce Drive — when Schroeder apparently hit the accelator instead of the brake.

Traveling at an estimated 5 mph, Bock said the car crashed through the bank’s front windows, burying itself completely in the lobby.

Fortunately, the lobby was empty and so were the adjoining offices.

“Thank goodness,” Bock said.

A damage estimate was not immediately available and Wells Fargo officials did not return calls for comment.
