During a news conference at Mankato West on Thursday, the multiple-sport athlete and active senior was awarded a scholarship to attend Northwestern Preparatory Academy near Lake Arrowhead, Calif. Northwestern is used as a physical and academic training ground for future entrants in the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. According to the Princeton Review, only Harvard University is more competitive than the Air Force Academy. And while the scholarship is quite an honor, Davis said, it is only the first stage in a journey he hopes will lead him into the cockpit of an Air Force jet. A journey that Davis admitted will be a rigorous test of his mental and physical abilities. “I have to keep a positive mindset and just keep going,” Davis said. More than 9,000 people apply for the scholarship, which is distributed by the Falcon Foundation, and about 1,300 are accepted nationwide.
