Your View: Brod's rivals should stop negativity

By Daryl Bauer, New Prague

Rather than tell us what their candidate will do, Rep. Laura Brod’s opponents use negative campaign tactics and seem to continue to focus on only one of many votes that are taken by legislators.

Brod voted many times on HF 2800, the Democrats, transportation bill. Each time she voted on this issue, she protected the taxpayers by voting “no” and offering alternatives to fund our transportation needs. However, her opponents focus on one vote on that bill in an attempt to mislead. While she missed that one vote, Brod has been very clear on her opposition to the multitude of tax increases which increased prices at the pump for you and your family, and was very clear that she would have voted against overriding the governor’s veto again in 2008, just like she did in 2007.

What is so hypocritical of her opponents’ arguments is that while they try to bash Brod for missing one vote, their presidential candidate, Barack Obama, missed over 45.9 percent of the votes in the U.S. Senate.

It is too bad that they do not think they should hold their own candidate to the same standard they are trying to apply to our representative.

Brod is known as one of the hardest workers in the Minnesota House and has the record to prove it. I hope we can get beyond the negative politics because I expect candidates to campaign on the issues. Brod has and I expect, will continue, to run a positive campaign focused on the issues and her positive vision for Minnesota. I hope her opponent will start to do the same.
