Your View — Read, understand the Constitution

Sept. 17 marks the 221st anniversary of the drafting of the U.S. Constitution by the members of the 1787 Constitutional Convention.
The signing guarantees our freedoms. The Constitution guards our liberty. The U. S. military guarantees the implementation of the Constitution.
Ben Franklin urged Continental Convention delegates to sign the constitution during the ratifying debates. Reading the ratifying debates opens a better understanding of the real meaning and spirit of the Constitution.
Displays honoring the document and the signers commemorating our forefather’s work on the Constitution can be seen at the Blue Earth County library, as well as surrounding area libraries.
Anthony Wayne Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution members actively encourage and support education about our country’s history. Nancy Constitution Week chair Cartwright Hamer, Anthony Wayne Chapter, and the chapter members invite everyone, as citizens of the United States, to read, understand and support our Constitution so that it continues to survive.
One hundred copies of the U.S. Constitution, in small readable size, have been donated by Billie MacPherson Carleton, member of Col. John Starke Sr. Chapter, DAR, Oklahoma City, Okla., and former regent of Anthony Wayne Chapter. The small booklets will be available as part of the local displays.
