Your View: Mowed-down trees would do fine

By Michael J. Anderson, St. Peter

We enjoy reading our Free Press with our morning coffee and we sympathized over your tearfully entertaining, front-page article Saturday about hillside mowing.

Please note that when small deciduous trees are cut, trimmed or mowed down, the seedlings will soon reroot vigorous multi-stemmed growth, which is especially suited on a hillside.

Have you tried pulling out an unwanted maple or cottonwood seedling whose deep roots resisted uprooting and in a few weeks was challenging you to try again?

With the recent rains, the little decapitated treasures will be spreading fresh, new branches on the hillside.
