Your View: VINE helps those in need
By Marion Martens, Mankato
By now, you have read in The Free Press that VINE Faith in Action has lost one of its major grants for this year.
The granting agency was clear in stating the grant was denied because of lack of funds and that VINE’s work is exemplary.
This is important because people in need depend on VINE for many services: Transportation to appointments and work, transition help from hospital back to home, light housekeeping; cooking, shopping, laundry, elder mentoring, crisis situations such as ramp building, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, education in care giving, grief support, PALS exercise, and small-home repairs.
VINE has been under the caring direction of Pam Determan and a board of responsible men and women. It has existed in Mankato for more than 13 years and has served the community well with just a few paid staff and many volunteers.
The funding comes from grants and contributions, from churches, organizations and individuals. You could help by making a donation.
