Your View: Republicans save state

By Gabe Cornish, Lake Crystal

The public is quickly finding out what happens when the Democratic Party comes to power. The far left agenda of the Democratic Party is becoming painstakingly evident.

Democrats spent the first four months of this legislative session fighting for, amongst other things, illegal immigrants to be granted in-state tuition rates. They have fought for state-funded benefits for same-sex partners. They are forwarding bills on education, transportation and health care, that, if enacted, would give Minnesota the dubious honor of having the nation’s highest tax bracket.

They not only want to spend the $2 billion surplus they inherited, but they want Minnesotans to absorb record tax increases to fund their out-of-touch proposals.

Democrats should not forget that they were elected in large part due to difficulties in Iraq. There was no mandate for mass implantation of government programs, record spending and the bulking up of our welfare rolls.

Thank goodness we have a governor and a strong Republican caucus that will keep the Democrats from taxing us into another huge budget deficit.
