I am the parent of two elementary-age children and a pre-school child and a supporter of the Mankato Area Public Schools bond referendum.
Projected average annual kindergarten enrollment for children currently aged 0 to 4 is 639 students. My preschooler will attend kindergarten in 2009, when the projected enrollment is 686 students, the highest number of students at any grade level, current or in the near future.
If the bond referendum fails, imagine the increased class sizes, imagine the loss of full-day kindergarten, imagine the possibility of the children in your family attending school in split shifts.
Whether you attend school on the East or West side of town, the effects of over-enrollment will spill over and be felt at your school.
Please vote Yes on April 29 to maintain, and even increase, the quality of education in our communities.
