It is my pleasure to write a letter concerning the upcoming bond referendum vote April 29. As a parent of two children enrolled in the local school system, I am 100 percent convinced the referendum needs to be approved.
While I could dazzle your readers with stats and facts about why we need this money, I deem it more important to simply try to imagine the school system without it. The outlook is not very pleasant.
Larger class sizes, half-day kindergarten, reduced or eliminated fine arts programs. The list goes on, but my expectation for my children is not to simply “get by.”
Today’s world demands a stunning education to set our children on a path for success, and to stay competitive in our society. Without an approval on this referendum what message are we sending to our children? It’s OK to just “get by”? No chance. I have spoken with a lot of teachers in the past years, and their jobs are some of the toughest out there. New curriculums, new requirements, new challenges. They are simply underappreciated. Let’s not make their job of molding our children and grandchildren any harder than it is.
Let the kids in our communities know you care about their futures. Remember, these students are going to be the decision makers for our country and we need to be able to say that we did everything possible to arm them with the skills necessary to be leaders in our society.
