Helen Emily Wondra, age 94, of Le Center, died Monday, December 1, 2008, at Central Health Care Center in Le Center.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4 at Le Center Funeral Home from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on Friday, December 5 at 11:00 a.m. with an hour visitation prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery.

Helen, a lifetime resident of the area, was born on April 5, 1914, in Montgomery Township to James W. and Anna (Prchal) Kotek. She attended country school then married George A. Wondra on November 15, 1932, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Together, they farmed in Lexington Township until they moved into Le Center in the fall of 1960.

She was active in the Starlite Extension Club, enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her pride in her Czech heritage came through in her love for baking, especially kolacky.

Helen is survived by two sons, Harold (Ellen) of Le Center and Richard (RoseMary) of Lake Washington; sister-in-law, Erma Kotek of Montgomery; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant son, Ronald; grandson, Larry Wondra; brother, Jimmy Kotek; and two sisters, Anna Holey and Bessie Holey.
