Sister M. Roberta Rother, SSND, 93, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Good Counsel Provincial House. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Good Counsel, with 7 p.m. Vespers, and one hour before services. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Sister Roberta was born in Hampton, MN, June 1, 1916. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1933 and took First Vows in 1938. She taught primary grades until 1960, including Holy Rosary (1940-1941), St. John (1946-47), and St. Peter John Ireland (1950-51). In 1960 she began a new educational ministry – librarian. Local librarian positions were SS. Peter & Paul (1967-71) and Good Counsel Academy (1977-80). In her retirement years, she was known for hand-crafting pressed-flower greeting cards using flowers she had grown herself.
She is survived by brothers Gregory (Agnes), Raymond (Audrey) and Clarence (Maralee); a sister Rita (Gerald) Stubbs; nieces and nephews and their families; and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Catherine (Kuhn) Rother, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
