Ervin William “Pete” Pietan, age 92, of Mankato, formerly of Wells, MN, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Mankato House Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 3, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Charles Espe will officiate and burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale, Steele County, Minnesota. Ervin William “Pete” Pietan was born March 7, 1915 to Henry and Clara Pietan in Fairmont, MN. He attended grade school at the Red Brick Amber Lake rural school and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1932. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology from the University of Minnesota. He was a pharmacist in Minneapolis, Fairmont, Ellendale, and later bought into a partnership in the pharmacy in Wells, MN.

He married Pearl Michael in 1937. They had three sons. Ervin later married Irene Reistad of Ellendale, MN on July 13, 1952. They resided in Wells until 2006 when they moved to Laurels Edge in Mankato.

Ervin was always interested in music. He played for a long time in small dance orchestras. He loved raising sheep, was fascinated by trains, collected old cars, traveled and hunted with his sons. He was active in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Clara Pietan; sister Nina (and husband Warren) Musser; siblings-in-law Margaret (and husband Bennie) Lee; Ed (and wife Lillian) Reistad; Gladys (and husband Hartwick) Thomson; Ted Reistad; Mildred (and husband Weldon) Cutting; Maynard (and wife Esther) Reistad; and Nora (and husband Leonard) Jepson.

He is survived by his wife Irene of Mankato; brother Norman Pietan of Mankato; 3 sons, Mike (and wife Pam) of Mankato, Jerry (and wife Mary) of Jacksonville, FL, and Jim (and wife Kim) of Nicollet; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Vernon (and wife Ethel) Reistad of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, Minnesota.
