MANKATO — “Moving texts” is the theme of the last installment of MSU Theatre & Dance’s Bridge Project, which aims to connect dance to another discipline or idea.
Text was the inspiration for the choreography, whether spoken live, recorded, as part of set pieces, or projected in the form of video clips. Andreas Guest Artists, faculty and student work will be presented in the 10-piece concert.
Andreas Guest Artists are Morgan Thorson, a Minneapolis-based choreographer, who created a piece in the vein of the post-modern dance aesthetic; and Cynthia Gutierrez-Garner, who created a jazz work to the music of Alice Russell, called “Heart Strings.”
The dance department’s newest faculty member, Daniel Stark, will present a quartet called “Ripple.”
The work is based on the metaphor of waves as the dancers toss and tumble, crash and cling.
“Hernado’s Hideaway,” choreographed by faculty member Paul Finocchiaro and Nadine B. Andreas Teaching Assistant Nikki Swoboda, includes a cast of 15 dancers. The work showcases the tango in various interpretations.
Dance Program Director Julie Kerr-Berry choreographed a dance-theatre piece called “Baggage Claimed, Storied Lives.” The piece was developed from stories of the nine dancers in the piece.
