MANKATO — Drowning Pool didn’t waste much time achieving fame.

The band’s debut single, “Bodies,” released in 2001 received national radio airplay, resulting in music critics calling the band the breakout metal band of the year. Their album “Sinner” went on to sell 1.5 million copies.

The band kicked off Ozzfest in 2001 and returned as one of the headliners in 2002. However, tragedy struck on Aug. 14, 2002, on a tour date in Virginia when singer Dave Williams died of a heart disorder.

The band canceled public appearances and grieved for their friend. After a year searching for a new frontman, Jason “Gong” Jones was chosen, and the band continued on with making music.

“Desensitized” was the follow-up to “Sinner,” with “Step Up” as the first single. The song was featured on the film “The Punisher.”

The band is currently on its “Know Your Enemy” tour, featuring a stint with Saliva. Their most recent single is “37 Stitches” off of the album “Full Circle,” which came out July 7.
